DES MOINES, Iowa – The Augustana men's tennis team traveled to Des Moines, Iowa, this past weekend to open the fall portion of the 2022-23 season at the Drake Invite. The invite was an individualized tournament setup that saw eight student-athletes compete.

In singles, sophomore Henry Dornbusch defeated Nikita Snezhko from North Dakota in first round play (4-6,6-4,10-6). Senior Tyson Cowger competed in flight 3 where he defeated Pablo Dale from Marquette (8-7)(5).

"This was a great tune-up for the men as we get ready to head to Oklahoma for the ITA regional this week," said head coach Marc Kurtz. "Henry and Tyson had gritty singles wins and it was nice to see them come out on top against some quality opponents".

In doubles, Augustana pulled off a major win over a dominant Division I program, Wichita State. Dornbush and Junior Meg Siritaworachan had a win of 8-4 over Zach Grueber and Jadyn Richardson in the round of 16 to move onto the quarterfinals. The doubles pair fell to Marco Siverio and Sourabh Terakanambi of Gustavus Adolphus College (6-3).

"We had rain on Saturday so that eliminated some of our matches but I was pleased with our play and our fight all weekend," Kurtz added.

The Augustana men will be back in action next weekend when they travel to the ITA Regionals in Edmond, Oklahoma, from Sept. 22-25.
