SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Viking hockey heads to the Upper Peninsula as it is set to face off against CCHA opponent Michigan Tech in a Friday and Saturday showdown.

Augustana's inaugural season is presented by First PREMIER Bank / PREMIER Bankcard while playing yet another new opponent. Puck drop is set for 6:07 p.m. (CT) on Friday and 5:07 p.m. (CT) on Saturday inside Macinnes Student Ice Arena.
The Huskies
Picked as the CCHA preseason winners, MTU has been off to a slow start with a record of 0-4-3 after dropping contests to Alaska, Wisconsin and Clarkson.
Last weekend Michigan Tech traveled to the north country to compete against ECAC Hockey opponents in St. Lawrence and Clarkson. MTU battled to a 2-2 tie against the Skating Saints while dropping a 3-1 Saturday contest to the Golden Knights.
MTU senior goaltender Blake Pietila was named Co-Preseason Player of the Year for the CCHA after recording a 23-11-3 record last season. As an All-American selection, he led the nation with 10 shutouts.
Kyle Kukkonen was named to the Preseason All-CCHA team after being named the CCHA Rookie of the Year a season ago. Kukkonen played in 39 games and led the team in goals with 18.
The Vikings
Augustana (3-2-1) is coming off a big weekend in Colorado where it took then No. 2 Denver to overtime before eventually winning the exhibition shootout. The Vikings followed up Friday's tie by defeating Colorado College by a score of 4-3.
Ryan Naumovski,
Uula Ruikka and
Arnaud Vachon lead the Vikings with four points each by way of two goals and two assists. All three players transferred to Augustana and brought a combined 339 collegiate games to the team.
Freshmen
Hunter Bischoff,
Hayden Hennen and
Ben Troumbly have secured three points each through their respective games as they help lead the charge for their freshmen class.
The Vikings have been a force on the penalty kill as they rank seventh in the nation with a percentage of .955.
One Last Thing
Viking hockey had a handful of goal scorers last weekend as nine different players tallied a goal while 14 different players recorded at least one point throughout the weekend.
