JOPLIN, Mo. – Two Augustana cross country runners earned All-America honors while the women's squad placed seventh at the NCAA Division II National Championships Saturday.
Aubrey Surage garnered All-America accolades on the women's side while
Ryan Hartman garnered the prestigious honors on the men's side.

"It was a tremendous finish for our cross country teams," Augustana head coach
Tracy Hellman said. "For our women to finish top-10 in the nation for another year was tremendous.

"We were ranked 13
th, so our women ran awesome to get seventh. We were in 23
rd at the 1K, but we steadily moved up throughout the race. Aubrey capped off a great junior season to capture her first All-America award."

Hartman ran the first 1K in 30
th place and steadily moved up, hitting 12
th place at the 6K marker in a time of 20:26.5. His All-America finishing time placed him ninth overall in a time of 29:32.9 while covering the 10K course.

"Ryan finishing in the top-10 was a tremendous effort," Hellman added. "His finish is one of our best all-time best finishes. Not many Augustana athletes have finished in the top-10, so he is in elite company. Overall, a great race and season for Ryan.

Surage paced the Viking women with her 34
th place finish while covering the 6K course in 20:38.4. She moved up steadily throughout the race, sitting in 132
nd position just 1K into the race. She then was in 47
th place at the 3K marker and held her position for the second half of the race for All-America honors.

Ashley Overgaauw placed 68
th in a time of 21:11.4, also moving up through the field much like Surage. She was in 151
st after 1K and 104
th after 3K.

Overgaauw led the Vikings pack as
Ana McCabe,
Amanda Overgaauw and
Ella Bakken placed 71-73. McCabe's time was 21:13.3, Am. Overgaauw clocked in at 21:14.8 and Bakken in 21:15.2.

Laura Thompson earned a 140
th place finish as she timed in at 22:00.5. The final Viking in the race was
Tenley Nelson as she timed in at 22:11.7.

"Today was a great finish on our 2023 season," Hellman added. "We are excited for the future and as always, it's a great day to be a Viking."
