Viking Baseball Falls Short to Huskies in Extra Innings

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa–In a scoreless game through 9.5 innings, the Augustana baseball team fell 1-0 to St. Cloud State in the first game of the series on Friday night in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The Vikings drop to 15-11 overall and 4-2 in NSIC play. The Huskies improved to 11-7 overall and 3-0 in the loop.

A single in the 10th inning proved to be the difference for the Huskies, scoring the game-winning run to end the fast-paced game.

Augustana saw a scoring chance in the third inning when Trevor Winterstein singled up the middle and Sam Siegel made a run but was called out at home.

Caleb Saari pitched a complete game for the Vikings, striking out four and holding the Huskies to six hits and just the single, unearned run. He was able to keep the Huskies on the ground throughout the contest with 14 outs recorded by groundouts. Saari held the reigning NSIC Player of the Year and Central Region Player of the Year, Sam Riola to an 0-for-4 day at the plate. Saari's record on the season drops to 3-2.
