Viking Hockey Opens up Midco Arena Against the Bulldogs

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana hockey is set to open up Midco Arena in its inaugural season presented by First PREMIER Bank / PREMIER Bankcard against Ferris State, Friday and Saturday.

The Friday, Saturday series is set for 7:07 p.m. and 6:07 p.m. inside Midco Arena.  Both games will be streamed on Midco Sports and FloHockey. 

The Bulldogs
Ferris State (8-16-1, 6-11 CCHA) comes to Sioux Falls after sweeping CCHA opponent Lake Superior State University in a home-and-home series by scores of 5-3 and 3-2. The Bulldogs are led by senior Antonio Venuto with 24 points by way of 12 goals and 12 assists. 

Venuto is joined by freshman Luigi Benincasa and sophomore Travis Shoudy with 18 points each. FSU is averaging 2.36 goals per game while allowing 2.24 against. Goaltender Logan Stein has played 17 games this season and holds a save-percentage of .913. 

Ferris State's bench boss Bob Daniels is the all-time winningest head coach in school history. In his 32nd season as the Bulldogs head coach, Daniels has accumulated 495 wins, making him the 17th all-time in NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey in wins. 

The Vikings
Augustana (7-12-3) opens up Midco Arena after grabbing a weekend split with then No. 16 Arizona State. The Vikings opened the weekend with a Jan. 19 win by a score of 5-4 as they grabbed their first win over a nationally-ranked opponent in program history. AU captain Arnaud Vachon recorded three points in the Vikings' historic night. 

Goaltender Zack Rose, recorded his 1000th career save in Augustana's win over the Sun Devils. Rose tallied 34 saves for his fourth win of the season. 

Ryan Naumovski leads the Vikings with 16 points by way of five goals and 11 assists through 22 points. Naumovski, a graduate-student, is currently four points away from 100 career points. Luke Mobley and Uula Ruikka round out the top three Vikings in points with 13 and 11. 

One Last Thing
Augustana assistant coach Taylor Nelson played under Ferris State's Bob Daniels from 2008-12. In his time with the Bulldogs, Nelson recorded a career record of 35-20-10 and helped lead Ferris State to the 2011-12 Frozen Four.
