ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -
Ryan Hartman continued his monster senior season with another victory as the Augustana men's and women's cross country team closed out a successful regular season at the Lewis Crossover.
"It was a good test for our programs today," said
Tracy Hellman. "We were able to experience a large championship style meet and this is great learning for the upcoming championship meets. Placing top-10 with both squads at a meet of this caliber is a good stepping toward the ones that count. But we need to fix a few things and when we do that - we will be a dangerous team when it counts. And in our program - it's all about November."
Hartman earned his second victory in three races and third top-two finish after completing the 8k in a personal-best 23:38.48, 8.5 seconds quicker than second place. As a team, the men finished ninth.
"I thought
Ryan Hartman had a phenomenal race today," said Hellman. "He took down one of the best fields and he broke the course record doing so. There have been many elite athletes to race on this course so he is in good company. He is a great spot as we now enter the championship season."
Brady Hogan earned a personal best after finishing in 24:46.34, good enough for 49th place. Close behind him was
Kadin Groen, whose 24:49.28 was also a personal best.
Evan Myran slotted in as the fourth fastest Viking with a 25:14.51 to place 98th and
Daniel Street finished 110th with a time of 25:17.98.
The women also turned in an impressive performance after placing fourth in the 6k with 188 points.
Ella Bakken paced the team with a 21:23.00 finish to place 12th.
Ashley Overgaauw also saw success, placing 16th with a time of 21:35.81.
Eleni Lovgren turned in a personal best with a time of 21:47.57.
Lindsey Young closed the race in 22:33.73 to place 69th and
Taylor Melton rounded out the top-five Vikings in 77th place after finishing in 22:38.06.
