Viking Hockey Hosts Long Island in Regular Season Opener

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana hockey team opens up its regular season in Midco Arena on Friday and Saturday. The second season of Viking hockey kicks off at 7:07 p.m. on Friday and will be on Midco Sports. Saturday's puck drop is slated for 6:07 p.m. and will be streamed on Midco Sports Plus through CCHA TV.  

Season tickets and single-game tickets for the entire Augustana hockey season are on sale now. Tickets can be purchased at GoAugie.com/Tickets.

Augustana hockey will have a handful of promotions in its opening weekend on home ice. Friday's game will include an LED bracelet giveaway and the national anthem will be performed by Dr. Brian Hangan on the saxophone.

Saturday's game will be youth hockey night and Augustana invites people to skate with the Vikings post-game (equipment not provided, helmets required). The national anthem will be performed by Dr. Russel Svenningsen.

The Sharks
Long Island welcomed 15 Sharks to the 2024-25 roster, including 11 freshmen. LIU is coached by Brett Riley, who joined the Sharks for their inaugural season in 2020. 

Last season, LIU recorded a 16-20-1 record with notable wins over Colgate, Alaska Anchorage, Alaska Fairbanks and Sacred Heart. 

Long Island opened up its season with an exhibition win over Simon Fraser last Saturday by a score of 7-5. Josh Zary finished the game with a hat trick while Carter Rapalje, Sixten Jennersjo and Isaiah Fix found the back of the net. 

The Vikings
Augustana hockey opened up the 2024-25 season with an exhibition win over preseason No. 5/6 North Dakota by a score of 4-1. Brett Meerman found the back of the net twice while Quinn Rudrud and Nace Langus potted one goal each. The Vikings handed North Dakota its first preseason exhibition loss since 1996-97. 

Josh Kotai and Christian Manz both saw time between the pipes in the exhibition win. Kotai opened up the first half of the game with 15 saves while Manz played the backhalf of the game and stopped 13. 

Augustana went 5-6-2 on home ice last season and recorded the first weekend sweep in program history when it defeated St. Thomas, 4-2 and 2-1 at Midco Arena. 

The Vikings welcomed nine newcomers to the 2024-25 roster with seven freshmen and two transfers. Augustana will roster 27 Vikings with 15 forwards, nine defensemen and three goalies. 

CCHA TV
Midco Sports and the CCHA announced CCHA TV exclusively on Midco Sports Plus in late August. The CCHA's regular season and the Mason Cup quarterfinals, semifinals and championship will be streamed exclusively on Midco Sports Plus.
