WACO, Texas – The Augustana football team had one of the nations best defensive backs as the 2024 AFCA Division II Coaches' All-America Teams were announced Wednesday.
Peyton Buckley earned second team honors for the second consecutive season.
The addition brings the Vikings' AFCA All-America total to 13 individuals since 1994 and brings the all-associations All-America total to 79 honorees over the 102 years of AU Football. Buckley was a team captain for the 2024 NSIC Champions which won back-to-back outright conference titles for the first time since 1941 and 1942.
Buckley, a senior from Rice Lake, Wisconsin, was the NSIC Defensive Player of the Year after totaling 84 tackles, including 7.5 tackles for loss and a sack. He tallied 59 solo stops and nine pass breakups with a total of 10 passes defended. Buckley anchored a defense that finished in the top two of the NSIC in interceptions, red zone defense, scoring defense and fourth down conversion percentage. He holds a program record with 54 career passes defended (42 PBU, 12 INT).
