Viking Softball Continues NSIC Action with Four-Game Slate

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana softball continues NSIC action with games against Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State. On Friday, the Vikings take on the Bulldogs in a pair of neutral site games at the Husky Dome. The weekend games continue with two games on Saturday in the Husky Dome against the Huskies. Augustana sits 3-1 in conference play this season.

About the Bulldogs
Minnesota Duluth is 19-8 and 0-2 in conference play this season and was picked to finish second in the NSIC and garnered four first-place votes. The Bulldogs opened up conference play with 7-2 and 3-2 losses to Winona State on March 25. 

Nicole Schmitt has made a name at the plate with 10 doubles on the season averaging 0.40 per game. On the mound, Lauren Dixon has tossed 10 complete games and has two shutouts midway through the season. 

About the Huskies
SCSU holds an 18-10 overall record and 1-1 in conference play and was selected to finish fifth in the NSIC Preseason Poll. The Huskies split with Winona State on March 22, losing the first game 10-2 before bouncing back with a 1-0 win. 

St. Cloud State has the fourth-best defense in the NSIC, holding a fielding percentage of .978. The Huskies have converted 15 double pays throughout the season, ranking seventh-best in the country. 

Justyce Porter leads the nation with six saves and touts an 8-2 record. Porter, a sophomore, has a 1.41 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 23 appearances. 

About the Vikings
Augustana comes into the weekend after dropping a 5-4 decision to MSU Moorhead on March 23. Before the Vikings' first conference loss, they outscored their opponents 40-7 in a five-game winning streak. 

Six Vikings hold batting averages over .300 with Ashton Dorman leading the team with an average of .398. Dorman has 37 hits throughout the season, reaching second base 10 times. 

Torri Chute has been a force at the plate with six home runs and 27 runs batted in. Chute is the reigning NSIC Player of the Week after batting .526 with four home runs and four doubles while recording 13 RBI. She also set a school record with 10 RBI in the second game of a doubleheader against Northwest Missouri State last Tuesday. 

Grace Glanzer is one of the strongest pitchers in the country with an ERA of .54 while only allowing 3.70 hits per seven innings. She enters as the reigning National Pitcher of the Week after going 3-0 with 19 scoreless innings and allowing an opponent's batting average of .065.
