WINONA, Minn. – The Augustana soccer team (2-2-1) opened up conference play Friday night with a 1-0 win over Winona State in Winona, Minnesota. After 56 minutes of back-and-forth soccer,
Avery Heinz redirected a shot from
Macie Haggerty to record the lone goal and secure a Vikings win.
Augustana out-pressured the Warriors throughout the full 90 minutes of play. The Vikings recorded 14 shots to Winona State's five. Six of AU's 14 shots were on net with five Vikings recording shots on goal.
Aaliyah Matthews made quick work of the Warriors' offense as she tallied a clean sheet with four saves.

Audrey Parnell wired one in from outside the box and bent the ball short side high but Alyson Jumper reached out for the save.
GOAL (AU) 56' - Haggerty ripped in a shot from outside the box and found Heinz who redirected the ball towards the goal and found the back of the woodwork. Heinz's goal broke the stalemate as AU took the lead.
SHOT (AU) 58' - Parnell kept the pressure going for Augustana with a shot aimed for the middle of the net.
