BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Augustana hockey team (14-7-3, 6-3-1) played Bowling Green (12-9-4, 8-6-4 CCHA) to a 1-1 tie after
Joey DelGreco tied the game in the second period while Augustana was shorthanded. The Vikings secured the extra league point as
Nace Langus netted a wrist shot in the shootout.
Bowling Green's offense came into Saturday's game with a slew of energy as it peppered
Josh Kotai early. Augustana answered back with offensive momentum but Chrisitan Stoever stood tall. The Falcons caught a break in the final moments of the first period as Eric Parker redirected a pass out front to give BGSU's its first lead of the weekend series.
Augustana returned the favor in the midway point of the second period while on the penalty kill as
Hunter Bischoff broke past a Falcon defender and into the offensive zone before he found
Will Svenddal who then dished the puck to DelGreco for his sixth goal of the season. The Vikings' momentum carried throughout the remainder of the frame but the score sat at 1-1 by the second-period buzzer.
Both teams continued to gain an edge in the final period of regulation. Despite Bowling Green's 13 shots on goal, it continued to be stunned by Kotai's performance in net. Langus took a late minor penalty with five minutes remaining but the Vikings held strong defensively to force overtime.
Augustana found momentum in the later stages of the extra frame as BGSU was called for a two-minute minor. The Vikings peppered Stoever throughout the man advantage to no avail as he helped the Falcons garner a 1-1 tie by the end of 65 minutes of play.
The game went to a shootout to determine the extra league point. Kotai started off strong with back-to-back stops before Langus sealed the extra point with a wrister past the Falcons netminder.
Saturday's game officially ended as a 1-1 tie with the extra point handed out to Augustana via the shootout win.
