Viking Hockey Welcomes No. 15/16 Arizona State for 2025-26 Home Opener

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana hockey team opens its home portion of the 2025-26 season as it hosts No. 15/16 Arizona State on Friday and Saturday. Friday's game is slated for 7:07 p.m., with game two on Saturday at 6:07 p.m.

This weekend's giveaways will be sponsored/presented by First PREMIER Bank/PREMIER Bankcard. Friday's game will involve a Magnet Schedule giveaway. Saturday's action starts early, as the Vikings will host their first-ever Puck Drop Block Party that'll include a beer garden, food trucks, inflatables, and more. The Puck Drop Block Party runs from 3-5 p.m. Fans will want to arrive early, as Saturday's giveaway involves a Viking hockey blanket.

The Sun Devils
Fresh off winning the 29th annual Ice Breaker Tournament, ASU comes into the weekend with a 2-2 mark. The Sun Devils opened up the 25-26 campaign against then No. 6 Penn State, where they were swept, 6-3, 4-2. ASU bounced back the following week with wins over Notre Dame and Alaska Fairbanks during the Ice Breaker Tournament. 

Arizona State welcomed 11 freshmen to the 2025-26 roster that includes the fifth youngest player in college hockey in Lincoln Kuehne. Kuehne is an NHL 2026 draft-eligible prospect. 

Arizona State has six NHL Draft Picks on the 2025-26 roster that includes Cruz Lucius, a 2022 fourth-round pick by the Pittsburgh Penguins, and 2025 first-round pick Cullen Potter by the Calgary Flames. 

The Vikings
Augustana opened up the 2025-26 regular season last weekend against Minnesota Duluth. In Friday's affair, UMD defeated the Vikings, 4-1. Augustana answered back Saturday night with a statement, behind a 40-save shutout from Josh Kotai, the Vikings secured their first win of the 2025–26 campaign against UMD. Hunter Bischoff powered the offense with two goals, including the eventual game-winner early in the second period. 

In mid-September, junior forward Bischoff was named the third captain in program history and will be joined by assistants Hayden Hennen and Will Svenddal.

Two Vikings spent time this Summer at NHL Development Camps. Hennen headed West and took part in the Los Angeles Kings camp, while Josh Kotai spent time in the Steel City with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
