Viking Hockey Captures First-Ranked Win in Midco Arena

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana hockey team secured its first ranked win in Midco Arena as it downed No. 15/16 Arizona State by a score of 4-2 on Friday night. Ben Troumbly, Owen Bohn, Leo Bulgakov and Colton Friesen netted goals for the Vikings.

Arizona State opened up the action early in the first period as Samuel Alfano tipped in a shot from the point by Anthony Dowd. The Sun Devils continued to lay down pressure as they pushed their lead to two off a shot from the slot from Bennet Schimek. Augustana gained momentum in the final minutes of the first period as Bulgakov ripped in a shot from the top of the circle off a drop pass from Troumbly.

The Vikings opened up the second period with pressure as Bohn skated into the offensive zone and put the rubber top shelf for his first of the season. Hayden Hennen set up Bohn's second-period goal.

The third period belonged to the Vikings as midway through the frame, Troumbly jumped off the sidewall and pinned a laser to the back of the cage for his first of the season. Augustana's momentum continued as the Sun Devils were forced to pull their netminder with just over two minutes remaining in the frame. Bischoff and H. Hennen set up a breakout that carried into the offensive zone and was finished by Friesen for his second of the season and put the final dagger in the win.
