SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana track and field teams lit it up over the weekend across three different meets in three different states, where numerous Vikings collected top times, new PRs and even new school records.
WASHBURN OPEN
Down in Topeka, Kansas,
Ryan Hartman rewrote history in numerous ways on Saturday as he competed in the mile run. Hartman won the event in 4:00.14, a time that broke the South Dakota collegiate record, broke the Augustana school record, sits fourth in Division II this season and was a new personal best.
SDSU D2/NAIA OPEN
Up north in Brookings, the Vikings quickly tallied top finishes across all events against numerous DI and DII talent.
Llily Juhnke clocked a new PR of 7.67 in the 60-meter dash finals to finish third in the event and jump to third all-time in AU history. In the 60-meter hurdles,
Andrew Martens finished third in 8.08 seconds while on the women's side,
Baylee Van Zee took fifth (9.42) and
Claire Fierro (9.68, PR) took seventh.
In the women's 200-meter dash,
Nyanas Kur collected her third broken school record of the season as she bested herself with a 24.23 to rewrite indoor history and win the event.
Trent DeCook also finished seventh in the men's race with a 22.07, a new indoor PR and top-10 time at AU.
Augustana made waves in the 400-meter dash with
Maia Peterson (second, 58.15), Caroline Subeck (seventh 1:00.12) and
Caitlin Ostbye (ninth, 1:00.29) all placed in the top 10.
In the 600-meter run,
Ethan Boyens ran a season-best of 1:22.84 for eighth place and Juda Jarding followed close behind in ninth in 1:22.86.
Ashton Massey came seventh in the women's race with a 1:40.33.
Tyson Ricker and
Alex Otten each collected top-five finishes in the 800-meter run, clocking a 1:54.33 for second and a 1:54.54 for fourth, respectively. Sydney Serck came third in the women's 800-meter run with a clocking of 2:17.05 and
Tenley Nelson ran a 2:18.26 for sixth.
Ella Bakken won the mile with a quick time of 5:05.13 as Sudbeck followed behind in fifth with a 5:11.68 and
Will Sugrue was seventh in the 1000-meter with a PR of 2:34.08.
Three Vikings placed in the top 10 of the men's 3000-meter run:
Bryant Keller (second, 8:34.76),
Kadin Groen (fourth, 8:37.55) and
Payton Brown (ninth, 8:43.17). Four Vikings did the same in the women's race with Bakken (second, 10:05.77), Ally Sample (fourth, 10:29.12),
Lindsey Young (sixth, 10:32.53) and
Taylor Melton (eighth, 10:33.69).
Jayda Becker was third in the long jump with a mark of 17-02.00 and
Lauren Merkley followed behind in 10
th with a 15-10.25 while over in the triple,
Mackenzie Hemmer (35-11.50) came third,
Nyamal Changson (33-09.25) was seventh and Lexi Oderbak (33-04.75) was 10
th.
Bryn Greenwaldt won the women's high jump with a new personal best of 5-08.00, which ties her for fourth all-time in Augustana history and currently sits ninth in NCAA DII so far this season.
Clara Binstock also took ninth in the event with her clearance of 4-10.25.
The women's 4x400-meter relay won the event in 3:50.13, with the second-fastest time in school history.
MARK SCHUCK OPEN AND MULTI
Three Vikings competed in the women's pentathlon in Mankato, led by
Kylee Sallee's fourth-place performance with 3584 points. Her total is a new personal best and sits fifth all-time at AU.
Maria Pedroso followed close behind in fifth with 3543 points and
Ashton Massey was seventh with a new PR of 3252 points. Massey also earned new personal bests in every event of the pentathlon.
