Augustana Hockey Closes CCHA Slate on Home Ice

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana hockey team (16-9-3, 8-5-1 CCHA) returns to Midco Arena this weekend to close out its CCHA slate against Michigan Tech (15-11-2, 11-7-2 CCHA). The weekend series kicks off on Friday at 7:07 p.m. and concludes on Saturday at 6:07 p.m.

Augustana's return to Midco Arena will include a slew of promotions that start on Friday night with a 1,000 roses giveaway courtesy of Luxury Auto Mall followed by a deck of series two Viking hockey trading cards on Saturday night. 

Friday's national anthem will be sung by Sydney Rodgers. Saturday's anthem will be performed by the Augustana trombone choir. 

Fans are encouraged to tune in during the first intermission on Friday to watch the Augustana University figure skating club perform.

The Huskies
Michigan Tech travels to Sioux Falls for the first time in program history with three 10-goal scorers and a red-hot goaltender in Ryan Manzella. MTU fell to Bemidji State last weekend by scores of 5-3 and 6-5 in overtime. 

The Huskies are led by Stiven Sardarian with 32 points by way of 10 goals and 22 assists. In his third season of college hockey, Sardarian transferred from New Hamshire in the Hockey East conference. He is a third-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft by the Buffalo Sabres. 

Sophomore defenseman Chase Pietila was drafted in the 2024 NHL Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins after he led the team with 19 assists last season. 

Manzella, a freshman goaltender was named the Hockey Commissioners' Association's Men's National Rookie of the Month for January after he posted a 5-0-0 record in six appearances. He registered a CCHA best in goals against average with 1.23 and collected three shutouts. 

The Vikings
Augustana returns to Midco Arena after it dropped back-to-back games to nationally ranked Minnesota State last weekend by scores of 4-1 and 2-1. After being swept by the Mavericks, Augustana dropped to second in the CCHA standings.

In his second season with the Vikings, Hunter Bischoff has 17 points by way of five goals and 12 assists. Bischoff was the first player to commit to Augustana and was the first Viking to score in school history.

The Vikings have scored 76 goals this season for an average of 2.7 per game. Of the 76 goals, 14 have come on the power play.

Hayden Hennen leads the Vikings in blocked shots with 46. Brady Ziemer follows behind with 44 and Will Svenddal with 22.

Augustana has garnered nine weekly awards this season. Uula Ruikka, Christian Manz, Hayden Hennen, Tyler Hennen and Nace Langus have earned one this season. Joey DelGreco and Josh Kotai have garnered two.
