Viking Hockey Closes Out Regular Season Against Alaska Fairbanks

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana hockey team (17-9-4, 9-5-2 CCHA) closes its regular season against Alaska Fairbanks (10-12-6). The weekend series kicks off on Friday at 7:07 p.m. with game two on Saturday at 6:07 p.m.

Augustana will celebrate its seniors Evan McIntyre, Payton Matsui, Luke Mobley, Uula Ruikka, Brady Ziemer and Simon Falk on Friday night while also celebrating faith night. Saturday's game is fan appreciation night where fans will be allowed to skate with the Vikings postgame.

The Nanooks
Alaska Fairbanks continues its three-week-long road trip as it comes to Sioux Falls for the second time in its program history. The Nanooks come into the weekend after it captured a weekend split against Lindenwood. UAF secured a 2-1 win in overtime on Friday, Feb. 14 before it fell 5-2 on Saturday, Feb. 15. 

Matt Hubbarde leads the Nanooks with 22 points via 13 goals and nine assists. He is joined by Broten Sabo with 20 and Kyle Gaffney with 19. 

Nicholas Grabko has started in 19 games this season and holds a goals-against average of 2.83 and a save percentage of .897.

The Vikings
Augustana closed out its CCHA schedule last weekend where it collected four of six points against Michigan Tech. The Vikings secured a 5-1 win last Friday before it tied Saturday's contest 4-4 in front of a sold-out crowd.

 The Nanooks are a familiar opponent for the Vikings with this weekend marking its fourth series in program history. Augustana split in its last meeting with UAF where it won game one by a score of 3-1 before it fell 2-1 in game two. 

Freshman defenseman Easton Young was named CCHA Defenseman of the Week earlier this week after his three-point weekend against Michigan Tech. Young, a Grand Rapids, Minnesota native has recorded three goals and nine assists for 12 points. 

Last week, Josh Kotai was named a semifinalist for the 2025 Mike Richter Award announced by the Hockey Commissioners Association. Kotai is one of 10 semifinalists for the award, awarded annually since 2014 to the top goaltender in men's Division I hockey. The 10 semifinalists were selected from the watch list of 35 goaltenders released on Jan. 15 and were singled out by a panel of voters from across the hockey community.
