INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Augustana swimming & diving team continued its stay at the NCAA Division II National Championships on Friday afternoon with a pair of individual All-Americans as well as an All-American relay team.
Bryn Greenwaldt earned a bronze medal finish in the 100 back while
Nesrine Jelliti added an All-America finish in the 100 breast. The 200 free relay team consisting of Greenwaldt,
Angelina Chan,
Makoa Montgomery and
Meesha Montgomery added on with its second consecutive All-American finish.
Greenwaldt set the tone in the Friday morning prelim, earning the second highest time to earn her spot in the A final. In the nightcap, she spent the entire race jockeying for position between first and third, hitting the halfway mark in second at 25.15 before closing in third place with a time of 52.49 seconds. In the end, she finished closer to first place (-0.97) than she did to fourth place (+1.23) to earn 16 team points.
In the 100 breast, Jelliti earned her spot in the A final when she broke a program record, finishing the prelim in 1:01.61 to claim the fifth best time. A strong start in the nightcap saw Jelliti jump to a third place position through 50, and she would end up finishing in sixth with a 1:01.71 time in the final.
Closing the day was the 200 free relay team who clocked in at 1:31.97 to place third in the 200 free. The All-America honors for the group is the second relay All-America team for AU at the 2024 championships.
In the morning session,
Avery Lommel and
Kate Robbins each concluded their seasons in the 3m prelim. Robbins placed 21st with a point total of 356.30 while
Avery Lommel just missed out on All-America honors, placing 17th with 392.10 points to finish 1.05 points back from second team honors.
The Vikings tallied 57 points on Friday with one day remaining in the competition. Augustana owns 114 points throughout the week, good for 12th, and is 23 points from top 10 position.
