Five Vikings Named All-NSIC First Team; Axelberg Tabbed All-Defensive Team

BURNSVILLE, Minn - The Augustana baseball team had five players earn All-NSIC first team honors while taking home an All-Defensive team nod, announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. 

Ashton Michek and Jack Hines earned first-team honors for the second consecutive season while J.D. Hennen, Jason Axelberg and Trevor Winterstein were each first-team honorees for the first time. Axelberg also found his name on the All-Defensive team. 

Ashton Michek | Bangor, Wis.
The junior lefty went 5-2 in NSIC action with a 3.31 ERA and 1.22 WHIP while finishing second on the team with 55 strikeouts. Opponents hit just .214 against him in conference play over 49 innings. On the season, Michek has gone 6-2 with a 3.75 ERA and 65 strikeouts in 57 2/3 innings. He has also racked up a program record six pickoffs, tying himself for second in program single-season history, only trailing his 2024 mark. 

Jack Hines | Willowbrook, Ill.
The senior utilityman followed a National Player of the Year campaign with a conference-leading .455 in conference play and led the league with a 1.197 OPS and a .526 on base percentage. Hines hit nine doubles, six home runs, drove in 43 RBI and walked 18 times as opposed to 17 strikeouts in conference play. On the year, Hines is second in program history with a .453 average and third with a .521 on base percentage. 

Jason Axelberg | Monticello, Minn.
The senior outfielder earns his second All-NSIC honor after batting .377 with a 1.202 OPS in 40 conference games. He has a .427 on-base percentage and .775 slugging percentage while slugging 16 home runs and driving in 51 runs while scoring 39 and tallying 107 total bases. His also touted a perfect fielding percentage while playing 47 games in the outfield. 

J.D. Hennen | Alexandria, Minn.
The junior right-hander continued his emergence after blossoming as a sophomore, earning his second All-NSIC honor. In nine NSIC appearances and six starts, Hennen has a 3.53 ERA and a microscopic .181 opponent batting average while going 5-1. He has struck out 64 in 43 1/3 innings and was named National Pitcher of the Week after he threw a no-hitter against Bemidji State on March 9. 

Trevor Winterstein | Omaha, Neb.
The senior earns All-NSIC honors for the first time in his career. In conference play, Winterstein has been able to put it all together, slashing .350/432/.556 with six home runs and 48 runs scored. He had 16 multi-hit games, including a four-game stretch in which he had 12 hits against Minnesota State and Northern State.
