SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana head football coach
Jerry Olszewski has named Justin Joyce as the Viking's newest wide receivers coach. Joyce joins AU after spending last season as an offensive analyst at Mercer.
Joyce also served as the assistant quarterback coach for the 2024 Southern Conference Champion Bears, helping lead them to the FCS Quarterfinals. Prior to Mercer, Joyce spent a season at Mississippi State, working as an assistant wide receiver coach and scout team coordinator.
As an offensive graduate assistant in 2022, Joyce was a part of a Big 12 Championship at Kansas State. Under head coach Chris Klieman, he worked with the offensive skill players. That group included NFL Draft Pick Deuce Vaughn whose 1,558 rushing yards ranked second in the Big 12 and helped him to consensus All-America honors.
He spent two seasons at Walsh University as the quarterbacks coach before joining the Wildcats. Joyce's stop previous to Walsh was Central Michigan where he was an offensive quality control coach during the 2018 and 2019 seasons assisting with the quarterbacks and wide receiver groups. He was responsible for opponent and self-scout film breakdown, opponent and self-scouting reports as well as Championship Analytics Book (CAI) for games and practice situations.
He worked closely with head coach Jim McElwain in preparing practice schedules and scripts. Joyce also drew Visio diagrams for offensive playbooks as well as weekly game books. He was a part of a coaching staff that helped the Chippewas claim the 2019 MAC West Division Championship, an appearance in the 2019 MAC Championship Game and the 2019 New Mexico Bowl. He also helped tutor a pair of First Team All-MAC wide receivers in Kalil Pimpleton and JaCorey Sullivan.
Prior to his stint at Central Michigan, Joyce served as the wide receivers coach at St. Cloud State during the 2017 season.
Following a two-year period on the active roster at Iowa, Joyce moved into coaching as a student assistant quarterbacks coach for the 2015 and 2016 seasons. He assisted the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach with making scripts, meeting tapes, scout team defensive backs, as well as other tasks. In 2015, Iowa went 12-0 in the regular season and earned a trip to the Rose Bowl Game. That came on the heels of another bowl trip in 2014 to the Outback Bowl.
A native of Midlothian, Virginia, Joyce obtained his bachelor's degree in business management from Iowa in 2017, while he earned his master's degree in education administration and leadership from St. Cloud State in 2019.
