SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana scored three times in the opening period and added an insurance goal in the third to earn a 4-0 victory over Ferris State Friday night at Midco Arena. The Vikings improved to 15-6-3 on the season with the win.
Josh Kotai is the first men's NCAA Division I hockey goaltender with three straight shutouts since Dryden McKay in February of 2020. His shutout streak has reached 192:40 minutes, the longest in Augustana history and longest in the CCHA since it was reconstituted.
Augustana wasted little time getting on the board, striking at the 4:01 mark of the first period.
Owen Baumgartner opened the scoring at even strength, finishing a play set up by
Nace Langus and
Cole Burtch to give the Vikings an early 1-0 advantage. The Vikings added two more goals late in the opening frame to build a three-goal cushion.
Jacob Jastrzebski doubled the lead at 17:49 with an even-strength tally off assists from
Brett Meerman and
Hunter Bischoff. Just under two minutes later,
Maxwell Chakrabarti found the back of the net at 19:42, with Burtch and Langus earning the assists, sending Augustana into the first intermission up 3-0.
The second period remained scoreless as both teams traded chances. Augustana generated sustained pressure throughout the frame, but Ferris State goaltender Hobie Hedquist kept the Bulldogs within reach, while Kotai turned aside all six shots he faced to preserve the shutout.
Augustana added its final goal of the night early in the third period.
Owen Bohn scored at the 9:01 mark, finishing a play created by
Joey DelGreco and
Hayden Hennen to make it 4-0. The Vikings controlled play the rest of the way, limiting Ferris State's opportunities and closing out the shutout victory.
Augustana outshot Ferris State 33-22 for the game. Kotai finished with 22 saves to earn the shutout, while Hedquist made 29 saves for the Bulldogs.
