SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana hockey and Colorado College exchanged leads before the Vikings pulled ahead for good early in the third period, earning a 3-2 victory Friday night at Midco Arena. Augustana improved to 11-6-3 on the season with the non-conference win.
The Vikings opened the scoring midway through the first period as
Colton Friesen found the back of the net at the 4:54 mark for his seventh of the season.
Callum Gau and
Will Howard assisted on the even-strength goal to give Augustana a 1-0 lead. Colorado College responded late in the frame, tying the game at 17:28 when Bret Link scored at even strength to send the teams into the intermission even at 1-1.
Colorado College grabbed its first lead of the night early in the second period. Connor Hvidston capitalized at 5:24, pushing the Tigers ahead 2-1. Augustana answered just over three minutes later on the power play, as
Brett Meerman converted at 8:47 with assists from
Joey DelGreco and Friesen, evening the score at 2-2.
Augustana took the lead for the final time early in the third period while shorthanded.
Cole Burtch scored at 1:24 on a breakaway, finishing a setup from
Easton Young to make it 3-2. The Vikings held off a late push from Colorado College, including an extra-attacker opportunity in the closing minutes.
Christian Manz earned the win in goal for Augustana, stopping 29 shots. Kaidan Mbereko made 25 saves for Colorado College.
