SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Augustana men's hockey players
Brett Meerman and
Jacob Jastrzebski were recognized by the Central Collegiate Hockey Association on Tuesday, earning CCHA Players of the Month honors for December.
Meerman was named the CCHA Forward of the Month, while Jastrzebski earned CCHA Rookie of the Month accolades after helping lead the Vikings to a 3-1-2 record during the month.
Meerman led all CCHA skaters in goals (5) and points (9) in December, helping Augustana to a 3-1-2 record. He also had league-bests in shooting percentage (41.7%) and power-play goals (3), while finishing second in plus-minus (+5). Notching 12 shots on goal, he had one game-winning goal and blocked three shots defensively. His month was highlighted by three straight games with multiple points, including a three-point showing (2 goals, 1 assist) in a 7-4 victory over Omaha on December 19.
Jastrzebski led CCHA freshmen in assists (5), points (7), and plus-minus (+4) in December, helping the Vikings to a 3-1-2 record. Registering eight shots on goal, he also blocked eight shots defensively and won 50-of-110 face-offs. Despite seeing his five-game point streak come to an end against Omaha, he had at least one point in all four conference games during the month, including three straight multi-point efforts against Bowling Green and Minnesota State.
Augustana returns to conference action this weekend against Northern Michigan.
