Women's Swimming and Diving Places Third at the NSIC Championships

FARGO, N.D. - Avery Lommel and Ava Brogren each earned NSIC Championships on the final day of the NSIC Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. The Vikings finished the weekend in 3rd with 618 points. Maija Kangas earned Elite 18 and Outstanding Senior of the Year honors and Lommel was named NSIC Diver of the Meet for the second consecutive season.

Lommel dominated in the 1m dive, posting 422.25 points in the prelim and 439.85 points in the final, hitting a D2-mark and pacing the field by nearly 17 points. It is the third consecutive season that Lommel has won the 1m dive. 

It was Brogren's day in the 100 IM, taking care of business from start to finish on her way to an event championship. She swam the fastest prelim time in the morning, posting a 58.42. In the nightcap, she outdid herself by finishing in a time of 58.20, over a half second faster than second place. 

To end the night, Brogren, Margaret Reed, Nathalia Silva and Sofia Hein captured an All-NSIC honor in the 400 Free Relay. The team zoomed to a second place finish with a time of 3:29.12. Maria Presuss, Kangas, Tova Bilkre and Jisella Haskamp raced to a 13th-place finish in the B-Final after posting a 3:35.12.

Gracin Larson also claimed a spot in the A-Final of the 100 IM and had a 1:00.16 to place eighth. Two Vikings earned points in the B-Final as well to help boost the Viking total. Jisella Haskamp and Ella Ward-Zeller were neck and neck, finishing 15th and 16th with times of 1:01.34 and 1:01.48, respectively. 

Three Vikings scored points in the B-Final of the 100 Free as AU continued a monster day. Hein, Silva and Reed each competed Saturday night and packed to the finish. Hein finished in 11th place with a time of 52.77, Silva took 12th in 52.89 and Reed had a 53.20 to place 13th. 

In the 200 Back, three more Vikings tallied points while competing in the B-Final. Tova Blikre had a 2:07.12, the third highest B total to place 11th. In 12th was Larson, whose 2:07.70 put her right behind. Ward-Zeller ended the night in 15th, placing 2:09.12 to round out the event. 

Brogren also earned an A-Final spot in the 200 Breast after having the third-fastest prelim time. She closed out her individual performances with a 2:23.09 time to earn a fourth-place finish. Preuss had the top spot in the B-Final with a time of 2:26.65 while Jisella Haskamp had a 2:27.68 to place 12th. Abbey Nynas and Ylva Konings finished ninth and 10th, respectively, in the 1650 Free to finish off the individual performances. 

The team will await NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships selections to see who will head to Evansville, Indiana, March 10-14.
