Four Men's Swimming & Diving Records Fall in First Day of the GLIAC Championships

HOLLAND, Mich. – The Augustana men's swimming and diving team opened action at the GLIAC Championships Friday, breaking records in four of the six events that were held. 
 
The Vikings bookended the day with records in both the 200 medley and 200 free relays. Ethan Kinney, Mason Ward-Zeller, Peyton Bartsch and Noah Mooney swam to a 1:28.94 finish to claim the top spot in program history and place sixth. To end the night, Bartsch and Mooney were joined by Isaac Rokusek and Collin Wilcynski for a fourth place-finish and school record in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:21.06.
 
Bartsch also earned an individual record in the 50 free prelims, lowering his own record. He earned a spot in the B Final when he clocked a DII B Standard-qualifying 20.13. He finished the B final with a 13th place finish in 20.37 to earn 3.5 team points.
 
In the 200 IM, Ward-Zeller earned a spot in the B final after a 1:50.97. He improved that time in the B final, finishing second with a DII B Standard and program-record 1:49.33 to add seven team points.

Two Vikings earned top-25 finishes in the 1000 yard freestyle. In his first GLIAC Championships, Sy Pizzolato finished in 19th place after a run of 9:48.08. Close behind was Will Kotalik, whose 9:51.28 was good for 21st. In the final individual event of the night, David Binsfeld finished with 432.55 points in the 1m dive to place 13th. 
 
The team is back in action Saturday, Sunday and Monday with prelims starting at 9 a.m. each day. The finals each night begin at 4:30 p.m. in Holland, Michigan.
