PUERTO RICO - Augustana College men's tennis came up short in a 6-3 loss to Division III Babson College in their first spring break trip match on Monday. The Vikings fall to 5-5 the season and the Beavers improve to 4-1.
Starting with the doubles matches
Jared Hofer and
Collin Noldner were defeated in a tiebreaker 9-8 (10-8) at the top spot.
Zach Adkins and
Jackson Buchanan fought but fell short in their No. 2 doubles match, 8-4.
Colan Surratt and
Trae Olson were then finished in the third-flight doubles match by an 8-4 margin.
Augustana headed into singles play trailing the Beavers 3-0.
In the No. 1 singles match, Hofer fell to Roberto Perez of Babson by a score a 6-2, 6-4 in his match. Noldner lost at the No. 2 slot to Isaac Thylen 6-2, 6-2.
Adkins took control of his match and put the Vikings on the board with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the No. 3 singles spot. Buchanan took a different approach to his three-set win. Buchanan lost the first set 2-6, but answered back with a 6-0 win in the second set. Buchanan then finished off his opponent with a 12-10 third-set tiebreaker win.
Ritterbusch lost his No. 5 singles match 6-0, 6-1, followed by
Mark DeSpiegler defeating the Beavers Connor Chin in three sets 4-6, 6-0, and 10-7 at the No. 6 singles spot.
Augustana will now take on Division I Colgate University on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.
