SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Augustana College women's tennis remains undefeated in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference competition with a 9-0 win over Minnesota Duluth on Saturday. The Vikings improve to 17-2, 10-0 in NSIC play this season, while the Bulldogs' defeat drops them to 5-9, 4-6 in the NSIC.
Jessa Richards and
Sydney Postal made quick work of their UMD counterparts in the No. 1 doubles match. The No. 3 ranked doubles pairing in the Central Region cruised to an 8-0 win to get the Vikings off on the right foot and remain undefeated in doubles play.
Berkley Darr and
Heather Sullivan fought off a comeback in the second-flight doubles match, pulling out an 8-6 win to keep the shutout intact.
Jenna Helleberg and
Meredith Lawrence then completed the doubles sweep with a close 8-5 victory at No. 3.
Richards then opened the singles contests with a straight-set victory 6-0, 6-0 in the top spot, followed by Postals' 6-0, 6-0 victory in the second-flight match.
Christine Olivo dropped the first-set, but cruised in the second-set to take the match to a third set. Olivo fought hard to earn a 3-6, 6-3, 10-6 win at the No. 3 singles spot.
Darr kept the Vikings rolling with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 4 match and Helleberg coasted in a 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 5 contest. Sullivan put the finishing touches on the Viking victory with a 6-2, 6-1 win.
The Vikings look to capture their sixth NSIC title with an 9 a.m. match against St. Cloud State Sunday morning at GreatLife Woodlake Athletic Club.
