MCCOOK LAKE, S.D. – The Augustana cross country team ran their last tune-up race before they begin postseason racing. The women's team finished in fifth as a team and
Logan Burns took sixth in the men's race.
The Viking women took fifth as a team but the top five was only separated by 13 points. Augustana finished with 94 points and the top team, Morningside, finished with 81.
The top finisher for the women was
Mackenzie Kelly who took seventh overall. Kelly ran the 5k course in 18:04.40. Rounding out the team scoring for the Vikings were
Alana Sesow (15th),
Cassidy Soli (23rd),
Rebekah Rairdon (24th) and
Amanda Nelson (45th).
"The women's team had a much improved team performance today," coach
Tracy Hellman stated about his women's team. "We did a great job at packing up during the race and we are making good progress towards postseason. When we are at full strength, I feel our team performance will be much better."
On the men's side, Burns was the only attached Viking runner to compete. Burns took sixth at the 8k course with a time of 25.48.50.
"I thought Logan (Burns) had a strong race today and he looked good throughout," coach Hellman said of Burns. "This was a great confidence boost for him, and gives him some great momentum going forward."
The Vikings have a week off before they race at the NSIC Championships on Oct. 22. The meet will be held in Sioux Falls.
