STORM LAKE, Iowa - Augustana men's tennis picked up two 9-0 victories on Saturday against University of Dubuque and Buena Vista University. The two wins gives the Vikings a 5-3 record on the season.
Augustana 9 Dubuque 0The doubles team of
Jared Hofer and
Zach Adkins improved to 5-2 on the year with a 8-0 victory over Justin Castro and Jordan Hamling.
Reed Ritterbusch and
Joe Sawatzke were victorious over Matthew Sablay and Ranfer Hernandez 8-2 in No. 2 doubles.
Austin VanDerWeide and
Austin Noldner completed the doubles sweep with a 8-1 win over Zebulon Hill and Alvaro Blanco.
In singles action, Hofer made quick work of Castro with 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Adkins would win in No. 2 singles over Sablay 6-2, 6-2.
Sawatzke would keep the momentum going with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Hernandez.
Mark DeSpiegler improved to 2-0 in No. 5 singles with 6-0, 6-1 win over Zebulon Hill.
Trae Olson made his season debut in singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Alvaro Blanco.
Augustana 9 Buena Vista 0Hofer and Adkins continued their impressive season by winning a tough 8-6 victory over Chris Habermann and Jesse Brace.
Nolder and VanDerWeide went on to win 8-4 over Steven Will and Grant Wright.
Erik Rossing and Olson finished the doubles session with a 8-1 victory over Kyle Wiebers and William Connelly.
At No. 1 singles, Hofer went on to a 6-1, 7-5 straight set victory over Habermann. Adkins improved to 6-2 in singles play with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Brace.
Sawatzke is now 5-2 in No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Will. Ritterbusch won in No. 4 singles 6-3, 6-0. Johnson won a shorten 10-1 match over Wiebers in No. 5 singles. DeSpiegler finished off the perfect Saturday with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Connelly.
"Anytime you can go and get two victories in a weekend makes you feel good," assistant coach
Eric Weisser said. "Several of our young players stepped up and helped contribute."
Augustana travels to Emporia, Kan. next weekend as they match-up against Emporia State and East Central.
