SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana men's and women's cross country teams will get their 2016 season underway on Friday, Sept. 2, hosting the sixth annual Augustana Twilight at Yankton Trail Park. The high school portion of the Twilight will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the collegiate races will follow starting at 8 p.m.
In its sixth year of existence the Augustana Twilight is continuing to reach new heights. This year's race will feature over 30 collegiate programs, including the likes of the University of Nebraska and Kansas State University. The race will also include over 40 high school programs competing prior to the collegiate race.
The women are set to run three miles and the men are scheduled for four.
Highlighting the Augustana women's team will be last season's individual champion junior
Leah Seivert. Seivert ran the three mile race in 16:25.7 to lead the Vikings to the team title.
Other top finishers for the Vikings included junior
Annie Kruse who took fifth with a time of 16:59.1. Sophomores
Mackenzie Kelly and
Courtney Hottovy finished 26th and 28th, respectively.
The Augustana men took second place in the team standings finishing behind the University of Sioux Falls. Leading the Augustana men was senior
Keegan Carda who placed 12th overall with a time of 19:31.6.
Other top placers for the Vikings were juniors
Logan Burns and
Nick Larsen, and senior
Glen Ellingson. Burns finished in 26th with a time of 20:07.8. Larsen and Ellingson finished in 31th and 37th respectively.
