SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana women's tennis team couldn't have started the 2016-17 season any better. The team went undefeated against opponents and won or shared every bracket.
"This was a good first weekend of matches for the girls," head coach
Marc Kurtz said of his team's performance. "Anytime you go undefeated on the weekend it's a good feeling. These matches show us where we're at and what we need to work on before we head to Oklahoma City for the ITA's in a couple weeks."
In doubles, the pair of
Kornelia Staniszewska and
Taylor Jackson defeated their teammates
Berkley Darr and
Annika Teske, 8-5, to win the Mirza Bracket. Doubles teams of
Meredith Lawrence/
Kaitlyn Motley and
Christine Olivo/
Rebecca Falkner each won their doubles brackets on Sunday.
In singles,
Anna Steinwand, Motley and Falkner each won their singles brackets by winning two matches on Sunday.
Next up for the Vikings will be in the ITA Central Regional Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla. on Oct. 1-3.
