EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Even with rain threatening and a soggy course, junior
Mackenzie Kelly rose to the occasion at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships in Evansville, Ind. on Saturday morning.
Kelly led the Vikings with a 25th place finish with a time of 21:32.4 at Angel Mounds, earning All-American status for the first time in her career. Kelly becomes the 33rd women's cross country student-athlete in school history to earn All-American honors.
In the team standings, the men finished in eighth with 326 points and the women took 14th with 389 points. On the men's side this was the Vikings 10th top-10 finish in program history and the eighth under head coach
Tracy Hellman. On the women's side it was their 14th top-15 finish in school history and their 11th under Hellman.
The Viking men were led by
Nick Larsen who finished in 50th with a time of 32:08.3. Behind Larsen was
Aaron Runge (56th),
Logan Burns (90th),
Sean Heaton (94th) and
Alec Kray (104th) to round out the team scoring.
Behind Kelly on the women's side was
Leah Seivert (77th),
Cassidy Soli (94th),
Emily Tromp (120th) and
Claire Boersma (147th) to wrap up the women's scoring.
Adams State won both the men's and women's team titles and James Ngandu of Tiffin won the individual men's title and Caroline Kurgat of Alaska Anchorage was the individual women's champ.
