SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- After going 2-0 in their opening week of the season, the Augustana women's basketball team looks to continue their winning ways as they open up conference play Monday, Nov. 20 at Wayne State. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
Led by
Shelby Selland's 17 points and 12 rebounds, the Vikings defeated Truman State 72-57 in the 2017-18 season-opener. Augustana followed that performance up with a 94-54 blowout victory over William Penn last Thursday night at the Elmen Center. The Vikings used balanced scoring that night as 10 different players scored including five in double figures.
Presley O'Farrell led the way with 17 points while Selland and
Paige Peterson each snagged seven rebounds.
Augustana is averaging 83 points-per-game this season while shooting just over 42 percent from the field.
Wayne State is 4-2 on the season, picking up wins against Young Harris College, Wisconsin Parkside, University of Colorado-Colorado Springs and Graceland University. The Wildcats are on a two-game win streak and defeated Graceland 89-52 last Thursday night.
Wayne State has two players who are averaging 10-plus points-per-game in senior Maggie Schulte (13.5 ppg) and senior forward Paige Ballinger (11.2 ppg.) Both Schulte and Ballinger are shooting over 42 percent from the field and average six rebounds-per-game. The Wildcats are averaging just over 77 points-per-game in 2017 while shooting 40 percent from the field.
The Vikings own a 20-16 all-time record over Wayne State with the two teams splitting their regular season contests last season. Augustana defeated the Wildcats 79-73 at home but lost in Wayne 75-66.
