Women’s Basketball set for Concordia-St. Paul Tournament

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- After opening up conference play with a win at Wayne State last Monday, the Augustana women's basketball team returns to their non-conference slate as the Vikings travel to St. Paul to participate in the Concordia-St. Paul Tournament Nov. 24-25. Augustana (3-0) faces Michigan Tech on Friday, Nov. 24 and Lake Superior State Saturday, Nov. 25. Both contests begin at 2 p.m.

Through three games this season, the Vikings have four different players averaging 12 or more points-per-game. Logan O'Farrell, a senior guard from Summit, S.D. leads the team in scoring, averaging 16.3 points a contest. Junior center and reigning NSIC South Player of the Week - Shelby Selland - is averaging 14.7 points for the Vikings. Presley O'Farrell (13.3 ppg) and Paige Peterson (12.7 ppg) round out the double-figure scorers for Augustana. Both Peterson and Selland are averaging seven rebounds-per-game to lead the Vikings.

As a team, Augustana averages 83 points-per-contest while shooting over 40 percent from the field. Currently the Vikings rank in the top-20 nationally in scoring and lead the NSIC.

Defensively, Augustana forces an average of 24 turnovers a contest, a number that ranks them 22nd in the country and 2nd in the conference.

Michigan Tech is 5-0 with wins over familiar NSIC foes MSU Moorhead, Minnesota Crookston and Minnesota Duluth. The Huskies defeated the Dragons back on Nov. 16, 66-53 and the Golden Eagles the very next night, 68-52. In Michigan Tech's last time out, they defeated the Bulldogs 79-70 in overtime.  

In five games, the Huskies are averaging 71.8 points-per-game on 45.4 percent shooting. Four players for Michigan Tech average over 10 points-per-contest, with senior guard Lindsay Winter leading the way. The Clare, Mich. native is averaging 18 points a game while shooting 55.2 percent from the field. Winter also leads the team with 9.8 rebounds and 4.4 assists per contest.

Lake Superior State has played just one game this season. The Lakers opened their 2017-18 season with a 80-68 loss to Malone on Nov. 17. Lake Superior State participated in two exhibition games in the preseason, dropping contests to Western Michigan (72-59) and Michigan State (111-37.)
Pouring in 18 points in their opener last friday, sophomore guard Courtney Jacobsen led the way for the Lakers with 18 points. Senior forward Tomara Novic corralled a team-high eight rebounds.

This will be the first time Augustana has played Michigan Tech and Lake Superior State.
