Women’s Basketball Steps Back Into Conference Play This Weekend

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- With a 5-0 record including a win over No. 10 Michigan Tech, the Augustana women's basketball team is off to their best start since the 2012-13 season when the Vikings began 9-0.

Augustana looks to continue their hot start this weekend, when the Vikings return to NSIC play on Friday, Dec. 1 at Concordia-St. Paul and Saturday, Dec. 2 at Minnesota State. Friday's contest begins at 6 p.m. while Saturday's game will start at 4 p.m. Each will be broadcast live on KXRB 100.1 FM with Jeff Fylling on the call.

Paige Peterson, who's scored 18 or more points off the bench in three of the five games this season, leads Augustana with 15 points-per-game. Three other Vikings are averaging 10 or more points-per-contest in Logan O'Farrell (14.4), Presley O'Farrell (13.8) and Shelby Selland (13.6.)

Logan O'Farrell, a senior guard from Summit, S.D., leads the team with 6.6 rebounds and 4 assists a game to go along with snagging 24 of Augustana's 67 steals on the season. Selland leads the team behind the act, cashing in on 8-of-12 shooting at a 66 percent clip.

As a team, the Vikings are shooting 43 percent from the field while allowing opponents to shoot 39 percent. Augustana's 88 points-per-game is the best points-per-game average in the conference and ranks fifth nationally.


The Golden Bears of Concordia-St. Paul are 2-3 on the season after splitting two games at their Thanksgiving Classic over the weekend. The Golden Bears defeated Lake Superior State 83-73 but lost to No. 10 Michigan Tech, 83-76.

Concordia-St. Paul is led by sophomore Anna Schmitt who averages 26.2 points-per-game and is coming off a career-high 33 point performance against Michigan Tech over the weekend. Lindsay Dorr, a sophomore center who transferred from Toledo, leads Concordia-St. Paul in rebounding, averaging 10 per game and has two double-doubles on the season.

The Golden Bears are shooting 41 percent from the field and allowing opponents to shoot just over 44 percent. From the three-point line, CSP has connected on 31 shots over five games, averaging 32 percent. As a team, they shoot 78 percent from the free-throw line.

The Mavericks of Minnesota State are 1-4 on the season picking up their first win of the season against Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Mavericks leading scorer is 6-0 senior guard Claire Ziegler. The Mankato native averages 10 points-a-game on 58 percent shooting. Monica Muth, a 5-9 junior from Cambridge, Wis. is the team's leading rebounder, hauling in 5.2 rebounds a contest to go along with her 7.4 points-per-game.

Minnesota State averages 62.4 points-per-game as a team on 39 percent shooting through five games this season. The Mavericks have allowed 73.2 point- per-contest and opponents have shot on average 44 percent from the field.

Augustana is 14-11 all-time vs. Concordia-St. Paul. The last time the two squads played, the Golden Bears defeated the Vikings 83-77 in St. Paul last season. Augustana holds a 44-28
advantage over Minnesota State, defeating the Mavericks 91-68 the last time the two teams met up.
