BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Augustana track and field team concluded the regular season for indoor with a solid team performance at the SDSU Last Chance in Brookings, S.D. on Friday. The Vikings recorded 27 top-five finishes during the meet.
"Today was our last time up before the conference championships, and I thought we had some solid performances," coach
Tracy Hellman said of his team after the SDSU Last Chance. "We won some events, we had some good marks and most importantly we gained some positive momentum going into next week."
Anthony Huber put on a show in the throwing events. Huber took first in the shot put with a personal best toss of 53-09.25, three feet better than his previous PR. Huber's mark was also a provisional qualifier and the top mark in the NSIC this season. Huber also placed in third in the weight throw with a throw of 53-08.25.
In other field events,
Sarah Westerman edged out teammate
Sara Heyn in the long jump with a personal best mark of 17-00, with Heyn's mark being 16-11.25. The duo went one-two in the long jump.
In the triple jump,
Coley Stoller finished second with a leap of 36-04.75 and
Morgan Rothschadl took fifth with a personal record mark of 33-03. On the men's side,
Josh Reider finished in fourth with a jump of 41-01.25.
In the men's high jump,
Tanner Schulte finished with a mark of 6-04.75 good for second place and
Eli Anderson took fourth with a mark of 5-10.75.
Paul Meloche continued his recent string of success with a first place finish in the 60-meter hurdles. Meloche raced to an 8.37 time in the finals and
Evan Ward took third with a time of 8.50.
Ellie Rew took fourth on the women's side with a time of 9.28.
In distance events,
Leah Seivert continues to hit her stride with a first place finish in the 3,000-meters. Seivert finished with a time of 10:12.93. In the men's 3,000-meters,
Sean Heaton,
Nathan Schroeder,
Skylar DeJong and
Nate Souther each hit personal best marks in the race.
In the 1,000-meters,
Cassidy Soli,
Carly Bauer and
Courtney Hottovy took second, fourth and fifth, respectively. On the men's side,
Austin Krohnke,
Alex Tietz and
Nick Reiffenberger finished in third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Soli, Tietz and Reiffenberger each recorded personal bests.
In mid-distance,
Ashley Solano recorded a personal best time of 1:42.65 in the 600-meters and took first in the event.
Austin Miller raced to a fifth place finish in the 400-meters with a personal best time of 51.40.
Next up for the Vikings will be postseason competition. Augustana will travel to Mankato, Minn. for the NSIC Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25.
"We now look forward to resting up and getting mentally prepared for the upcoming indoor championships," coach Hellman said in preparation for next week.
