HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Augustana men's tennis team got out to a rocky start at the Spring TennisFest in Hilton Head Island, S.C. on Tuesday night. The Vikings fell to West Liberty 9-0 and dropped to 4-3 on the season.
In doubles, the Zach and
Charlie Adkins fell to Andrew Ponder and Matt Tully, 8-6 at No. 1 doubles. At Nos. 2 and 3 doubles, the Vikings lost by identical 8-0 scores.
In singles, the Vikings were unable to muster a set win and fell to West Liberty 9-0.
Zach Adkins dropped No. 1 singles, 6-2, 7-5 to Baptiste Perrin. At No. 2 singles,
Charlie Adkins dropped to match 6-1, 6-3 to Andrew Ponder. At No. 3 singles
Joe Sawatzke fell 6-2, 6-4 to Matt Tully.
Logan Barr,
Austin VanDerWeide and
Mark DeSpiegler dropped matches at Nos. 4, 5 and 6 singles respectively.
The Vikings return to action for a twin-bill at the Spring TennisFest tomorrow in Hilton Head Island, S.C. Augustana takes on Fairmont State at 8:30 a.m. and concludes the day with the University of Charleston at 6:30 p.m.
