SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Augustana track and field team was led by
Olivia Montez Brown on the final day of the Sioux City Relays in Sioux City, Iowa. Montez Brown finished in the top two of two events on Saturday pacing the 10 Vikings who place in the top-eight.
"We had some outstanding performances this weekend as we get closer to the NSIC championship here in three weeks," head coach
Tracy Hellman said of his team going forward. "This weekend's meet was a great tune up as we now head into the final last few meets of the season."
Montez Brown had a strong day all around, taking first in the long jump and finished in second in the finals of 100-meter hurdles. Montez Brown won the long jump with a leap of 18-05. Montez Brown ran a season's best time in the 100-meter hurdle finals of 14.73.
In the men's 110-meter hurdle finals,
Dylon Van't Hof finished in third with a time of 15.27 and
Paul Meloche finished in seventh with a time of 15.79.
In both the men's and women's 3,000-meter steeplechase races the Vikings had racers finish in sixth and eighth in each race. In the men's race,
Sean Heaton took sixth and
Noah Hanson took eighth with both setting personal bests. In the women's race the Rairdon sisters each set personal highs, with Rebekah taking sixth and Rachel finishing in eighth.
In the women's shot put,
Izzy Van Veldhuizen set a personal best mark with a toss of 40-11 and finished seventh in the event.
John Klecker took eighth in the 1,500-meters with a time of 4:02.95.
Next weekend the Vikings will be busy as they have three meets on the docket. April 27-29, Augustana will send select student-athletes to the prestigious Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. On April 29, Augustana will be represented at the Kip Janvrin Invite hosted by Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. To wrap up next weekend, the Vikings will compete in the first leg of the NSIC Championships with the NSIC Multi-Events in Mankato, Minn.
