Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams Finish 2nd in Wisconsin

LA CROSSE, WISC. -- The 6th ranked Augustana men's and women's cross country teams weathered the cold course at the Wisconsin-La Crosse Invite and finished strong to take home second place for both teams.

Held at the Ettrick Golf Club in Ettrick, Wisc., the women started at 11 a.m. and men's race followed. Both Viking teams came in behind Iowa Central Community College. Overall, the men and women each finished with 57 points.

Leading the way for the women was Nicolette Schmidt, she finished in fifth place with a time of 22:16.3. Next to cross the finish line for the Vikings was Courtney Hottovy (22:26.4) in 10th place, Emily Tromp finished in 11th (22:42.7), Claire Boersma crossed the finish line in 14th with a time of 22:46.6 and rounding out the top 20 was Alana Sesow in 17th (22:55.1).

The men also had a dominant performance today in Wisconsin taking home second place.

Aaron Runge crossed the finish line in fifth place with a final time of 25:14.17. Finishing in the top-20 for the men after Runge was Nathan Schroeder in 10th place (25:27.17), Wyatt McLeod in 11th (25:29.51), in 14th was Skylar Dejong (25:40.41) and in 17th was freshman Bonheur Mvuyekure ( 25:45.49).

After the most  recent NCAA Division II Cross Country National Coaches' Poll, both the Vikings men's and women's program stayed at 6th nationally. In the regional rankings, the Vikings men are ranked no. 1 and the women are No. 2 in the central region.

The Vikings have a week of training before returning to the course on Oct. 20 at the Mount Marty Invite in Yankton, S.D.
