Augustana Women's Basketball Team Is Set For Home Opener Monday At The Elmen Center

Vikings look to keep their season rolling

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Following back-to-back wins to start the season, the undefeated Augustana women's basketball team is set to open their home schedule as they will take on Mount Marty on Monday. The tip-off is etched for 7 p.m. at the Elmen Center. Fans not in attendance can watch live video at GoAugie.com/live.  

The Vikings most recent wins come in Kansas City, Mo. where the team walked away 2-0 at the Central region challenge to start the 2018-19 season. On Friday, the Vikings beat Washburn (KS) 75-67, and on Saturday, the Vikings knocked off Southern Nazarene (OK) by 12.

The two games saw  three student-athletes to career-high numbers. Friday, Shelby Selland grabbed 14 boards and notched 21 points. Saturday, Janelle Shiffler and Abby Hora also had a magical game. Shiffler, a redshirt freshman had 24 points, while Hora, a junior form Viborg, S.D. had a career afternoon with 23 points.

The Vikings will now look to keep their momentum rolling. Over the weekend, their aggressive defense was a large help to their wins - in their two games this weekend they forced 40 turnovers and scored 42 points off of the turnovers.

As Augustana returns home to the Elmen Center Monday evening, they welcome the Lancers from Mount Marty. The Lancers (3-2) most recent loss comes from No. 13 Hastings College. The 29 point loss was their largest of the season. While they have won three of their five games, they have won by a combined 33 points in the three games.

Mount Marty comes into Monday's non-conference matchup averaging 74.75 points per game., which is 33rd in NAIA DII. While the Lancers score nearly 75 points and they only allow their opponents to score 69 points per game.

Coming into their sixth game of the season, the Lancers are led by two student-athletes, Ali Kuca and Jamie Tebben. Kuca and Tebben each come into the contest averaging 12.5 points per game. Kuca shoots just over 40 percent per game while playing just under 26 minutes. The junior is 17 of 42 this season from the field while a whopping 31 of her 42 shots have been from three point land.

Tebben plays just under 28 minutes a game as a junior. The 6-0 forward is shooting nearly 50 percent from the field while going 16 of 34 in five games this season. She has gone almost perfect from the charity stripe going 15 of 17. Her 88 percent puts her in the top 30 in the nation from the line.

The Vikings and Lancers have played 21 times in their history. The Vikings have taken the win 15 of the 21 times, and while playing at home, Augustana is 8-1 in those games.
