Women's Basketball Moves Up in the National Rankings

Vikings move up to no. 12

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- With another good weekend in the books, the Augustana University women's basketball team bumped up two spots to No. 12 in the fifth installment of the D2SIDA/NCAA national poll. The Vikings also cracked the top-25 of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association poll, checking in at No. 23. Most recently, the Vikings swept Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State and improved to 12-1 (5-0 NSIC).

Regionally, the Vikings are ranked second. Fort Hays is ranked No. 1 in the region with a 9-0 record.  

The No. 12 Vikings have opened their season extremely strong - their wins this past weekend improved their win streak to seven in a row.

On Saturday, the Vikings took care of business vs. the Minnesota Crookston with a , 86-54 win. In the victory senior Shelby Selland racked up 27 points and tied a season high 14 rebounds. With those 27 points she tallied, she scored her 1,000th point. Augustana wrapped up the weekend with a 97-48 win over Bemidji State. Lynsey Prosser dropped a season high 20 points.

After a stellar weekend for Selland and the Vikings, Selland garnered her second consecutive  NSIC South Player of the Week honor.

The Women's Basketball Division II Media Poll, sponsored by D2SIDA, is in its fifth year of existence. The regional poll is released every Monday, followed by the national poll every Tuesday. Each region has six representatives that comprise the regional poll.

Selland and the rest of the Vikings return to the jump circle inside the Elmen Center, Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 5:30 vs. Peru State.
