Track and Field has Four NSIC Champions on the Final Day of the NSIC Indoor Championships

MANKATO, Minn. - The Augustana track and field team had a solid two day at the NSIC Indoor Championships at the Myers Field House in Mankato, Minn.

Augustana finished the weekend with six NSIC champions, including four on Saturday, and the Vikings had 14 student-athletes earn All-NSIC honors in 13 events. The Viking women finished in third in the team standings with 87 points and the men took fifth with 69.5 points.

"Both teams performed very well this weekend with a number of conference championship and season bests," head coach Tracy Hellman said of his team's performance. "We are already looking forward to outdoors, but first we turn our attention to NCAAs in Pittsburg, Kan."

Callie DeWitt continued her sensational freshman campaign by taking first in the 60-meters and becoming a NSIC champion. DeWitt lowered her school record time again, going 7.61 in the finals and her time ranks . DeWitt earns All-NSIC honors in both the long jump and the 60-meters.

Carly Rahn as became a freshman NSIC champion on Saturday. After winning the prelims on Friday, Rahn raced to a personal best and provisionally qualifying time of 2:12.20 for the win. Her time was also a meet record and ranks her 14th in Division II.

Josh Barrows is a championship performer. Barrows was the 600-meter NSIC champ last season and was apart of the NSIC champ men's DMR team on Friday and on Saturday added the 800-meters to his portfolio. Barrows won the race with a time of 1:53.40.

Emily Tromp, a sophomore in her first season at Augustana, became a NSIC champion on Saturday. Tromp raced to a personal best time 2:55.83 in her win of the 1000-meters. Cassidy Soli took fourth in the race with a time of 2:59.45.

Other All-NSIC performers included: Paul Meloche (60-meter hurdles), Tromp (mile), Zach Tuschen (1000-meters), Mackenzie Kelly (5000-meters) and the men's 4x400-meter relay.

Meloche took second in the 60-meter finals with a time of 8.21. Tromp raced to a personal record time of 4:57.65 and took third in the mile. Tuschen finished second in the 1000-meters with a time of 2:30.12. Kelly finished second in the 5000-meters for her second All-NSIC accolade of the weekend. The 4x400-meter relay team of Alex Woods, Ryan Stiles, Austin Miller and Barrows finished in second with a time of 3:20.45.

Also placing in finals were Valerie Gildemaster (fourth-60-meter hurdles and eighth-400-meters), Austin Krohnke (fifth-600-meters), Miller (seventh-mile), Anthony Huber (fifth-shot put) and Aaron Runge (sixth-5000-meters).

Minnesota State won its seventh straight men's title and U-Mary won the women's title.

Augustana will learn how many student-athletes qualified for the National Championships in Pittsburg, Kan. last this week.
