MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Both the Augustana men's and women's tennis team dropped their matches to Northwest Missouri State at the Frank Grube Courts Wednesday night. The men lost 7-2 while the women lost 6-3.
Men
In doubles competition, sophomore's
Charlie Adkins and
Logan Barr defeated Franko Oliva and Youssef Sherif 9-8 in a thrilling No. 1 doubles match.
Zach Adkins,
North Knewtson (No. 2 doubles) and
Joe Sawatzke,
Austin VanDerWeide (No. 3 doubles) lost their matches 8-1.
Charlie Adkins earned the only victory in singles play for the Augie men, picking up a 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 victory over Josef Altmann at No. 1 singles. The victory moves Adkins to 5-4 overall in singles play.
Women
Junior
Kornelia Staniszewska and senior
Berkley Darr defeated Luiza Souza and Julie Rinderknech 8-2 at No. 1 doubles. The combo improves to 15-2 overall on the season.
Taylor Jackson and
Kaitlyn Schultz lost 8-6 at No. 2 doubles, while
Grace Goble and
Anca Rusu lost 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.
Staniszewska improves to 12-0 overall on the season at No. 1 singles after defeating Tania Teruel 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.
With the losses, the men drop to 4-5 while the women drop to 14-3 overall.
The Augustana men return to action Saturday, Mar. 24 when they take on Gustavus Adolphus at 2:30 p.m. in St. Peter, Minn. The women return to action Saturday when they host Upper Iowa from the Greatlife Woodlake Athletic Club in Sioux Falls at 7 p.m.
