AZUSA, Calif. - The Augustana track and field team sent a contingent to the Bryan Clay Invite in Azusa, Calif. on Friday and came away with one school record and four provisional qualifying marks.
Anthony Huber made a big splash in California by breaking his own school record is the discus. Huber tossed a mark of 53.01-meters to take fifth in the discus and Huber sits in ninth in Division II with this mark. Huber also finished in 17th in the shot put with a mark of 15.14-meters.
Valerie (Moos) Gildemaster hit a provisional mark in the 400-meter hurdles. Gildemaster took 14th with a time of 1:00.95. Gildemaster also took 23rd in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.57. Also in hurdles,
Josh Barrows finished in 31st in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.78 and
Paul Meloche took 26th in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.23.
In the women's 1500-meters
Carly Rahn,
Emily Tromp and
Cassidy Soli all set personal records on Friday night and Rahn and Tromp hit provisional marks. Rahn took 78th with a time of 4:29.19 and Tromp raced to a time of 4:31.19 to take 88th. Soli finished with a time of 4:40.79.
ORANGE CITY, Iowa - The rest of the Augustana track and field team converged in Orange City, Iowa for the Red Raider Open.
Callie DeWitt took first in a pair of events on Saturday. DeWitt took first in the 100-meters with a time of 12.11 and finished first in the long jump with a mark of 5.33-meters. Alana Klapperich finished in fifth in the 100-meters with a time of 12.67. Also placing in the long jump was
Sarah Westerman in third and
Sara Heyn in fifth. DeWitt also helped the 4x100-meter relay team take first along with teammates Klapperich,
Selin Dikmen and Heyn.
Austin Miller was another top finisher for the Vikings on Saturday. Miller ran a personal record time in the 800-meters with a time of 1:54.82 in his top finish.
Zach Tuschen took fourth and
Austin Krohnke finished in sixth. In other springs,
Sydney Mudgett finished third in the 400-meters with a time of 59.01 and
Brooke DeVos took fifth with a time of 1:00.45. In the 200-meters, Ryan Stile took third in the men's race and
Selin Dikmen finished in sixth in the women's race.
In hurdles, Dikmen,
Ellie Rew and
Ashley Solano finished in third, fourth and sixth in the 100-meter hurdles. In the men's 110-meter hurdles,
Evan Ward finished in fourth with a time of 15.52. In the women's 400-meter hurdles, Solano,
Morgan Rothschadl and Rew finished in fourth, sixth and seventh, respectively.
Alex Woods took fifth in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a itime of 57.59.
In field events,
Kendra Ludeman and
Coley Stoller earned third place finishes. Ludeman took third in the high jump with a mark of 1.52-meters. Stoller took third in the triple jump with a mark of 10.48-meters.
On Friday,
Lily Noble won the women's pole vault with a personal best mark of 3.30-meters. Also on Friday,
Peter Schukking took fifth in the men's javelin with a mark of 47.45-meters and
Ellie Rew finished in 10th in the women's javelin with a throw of 30.13-meters.
Next week the Vikings will be busy with four meets scheduled between April 25 and April 30. The Vikings start the week at the Mt. Marty Invite in Yankton, S.D. on April 25. Next, the Vikings will compete at the prestigious Drake Relays on April 26-28. Also on April 27, the Vikings will compete at the Kip Janvrin Open. To wrap up the week the Vikings will participate in the NSIC Multi-Events on April 29-30.
