SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Augustana baseball's
Jacob Blank and
Michael Brandt were named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District® 7 Team selected by CoSIDA the organization announced on Thursday. The distinction recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Blank and Brandt become the 12th and 13th Viking baseball student-athletes to be named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 Team and the fourth and fifth members in the last three years and the sixth and seventh members under head coach
Tim Huber. Blank becomes Augustana baseball's first two-time recipient of the award.
Blank, a senior from Gretna, Neb., sports a 3.92 GPA in Government and last season was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American. On the season, Blank holds a record of 8-0 with an ERA of 2.00 and 86 strikeouts. Blank is one strikeout and two wins away from tying the all-time school records in both categories.
Brandt, a junior from Rochester, Minn., holds a GPA of 3.93 in Biology and earns his first Academic All-District recognition. This season, Brandt has a team-best eight saves in 17 appearances out of the bullpen for the Vikings. Brandt's eight saves ranks tied for fourth for a single season in school history and his 14.29 strikeouts per nine innings is the top mark in school history for a single season.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot, with first- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees to be announced in June.
The Vikings continue action in the NSIC tournament against No. 3 seed St. Cloud State today, May 10, at 4 p.m. at the Birdcage in Sioux Falls.
