Gildemaster, Huber and Rahn Set for NCAA Outdoor Championships

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Augustana track and field team will be represented by three student-athletes competing in four events at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Charlotte, N.C. at the Irwin Belk Complex on May 24-26 hosted by Johnson C. Smith University.

The Vikings three national qualifiers are seniors Valerie (Moos) Gildemaster and Anthony Huber and freshman Carly Rahn. Gildemaster qualified in the 400-meter hurdles and Huber qualified in the discus. Rahn qualified for two events, making the field in the 800-meters and the 1500-meters.

Gildemaster, a senior from Sioux Falls, S.D., qualified for the second straight year in the 400-meter hurdles at the Outdoor National Championships. Gildemaster's top mark came on the final day of the season at the Eagle Open at UW-La Crosse (May 13) with a time of 1:00.02 which is the 11th best time in DII this season. During the indoor season, Gildemaster earned her first All-American honor with first team accolades in the women's DMR.

Gildemaster will run in the 400-meter hurdles prelims at 6:55 p.m. (CT) on May 24th and the finals will be on May 26th at 4:40 p.m. (CT)

Huber, senior from Ethan, S.D., qualified for the Outdoor Championships in the discus with a toss of 54.02-meters. His school record mark was set at the Mt. Marty Twilight on April 25 and ranks 10th in Division II. Huber is making his first outdoor nationals appearance after earning second team All-American recognition in the weight throw this past indoor season.

Huber will throw in the discus finals on May 25th at 3 p.m. (CT).

Rahn, a freshman from Ames, Iowa, qualified for a pair of events at the Outdoor Championships, making it in the 800-meters and the 1500-meters. Rahn's top 800-meter time came at the Howard Wood Relays on May 4 with a time of 2:10.43 which ranks 17th in DII. Rahn's best 1500-meter mark was at the NSIC Outdoor Championships on May 11 with a time of 4:29.02, which is the 19th best time in DII. Rahn is the only freshman to qualify in the 1500-meters.

Rahn will race in the 1500-meter prelims on May 24th at 4:25 p.m. (CT) and the 800-meter prelims on May 25th at 5:20 p.m. (CT). The finals for both on Rahn's races will be on May 26th with the 1500-meters at 2:55 p.m. (CT) and the 800-meters at 4:15 p.m. (CT).

To earn All-American honors a student-athlete must place in the top-12 in their event. The top-eight placers will earn first team All-American honors and the remaining four earn second team accolades.

The NCAA Outdoor Championship are set to begin on May 24 at 9:30 a.m. (CT).
