BROOKINGS, S.D. -- Competing in the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex, Augustana men's and women's track and field recorded 13 new personal bests and two event winners at the SDSU DII Invite on Friday.
Starting with the field events on the women's side, the Vikings placed one and two in the long jump. Junior
Olivia Montez Brown won with a jump of 18 feet 0.14 inches (5.49m) and sophomore
Callie DeWitt finished right behind Montez Brown with a jump of 17 feet 5.8 inches (5.33m). Sophomore
Mearah Miedema (eighth, 16 feet 3.7 inches) and senior
Sara Heyn (T-13th, 15 feet 11.7 inches) round out the top-15 in the long jump.
In the pole vault, senior
Lily Noble placed fourth with a clearance of 10 feet 8.7 inches. Over in the sand pits, freshman
Kaly Banks placed fourth with a jump of 35 feet 2.8 inches in the triple jump. Sophomore
Kendra Ludeman cleared five feet 2.8 inches in the high jump to place fourth.
Over on the track, the Viking women had a very successful day recording several personal bests. In the 600m run, the Vikings placed three in the top-10. Sophomores
Carly Rahn placed second with a personal-best time of 1:37.11 and
Meagan Schenk placed fourth with a personal-best time of 1:38.23. Senior
Avery Selberg rounded out the top-10 placing seventh with a personal-best time of 1:40.84.
Montez Brown continued her day placing second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.77 and DeWitt placed sixth with a time of 7.81 in the 60m dash. Rounding out the Viking women sprinters was DeWitt who placed seventh with a time of 26.06 and sophomore
Selin Dikmen who placed ninth with a time of 26.12.
Over in the distance races, junior
Alana Sesow ran a personal best 2:22.76 for fourth place in the 800m and freshman
Haylee Waterfall placed fourth with a personal-best 3:03.90 in the 1000m.
Finishing out the day on the women's side was the 4x400 team. The 'A' team (
Sydney Mudgett, Montez Brown,
Kali Ryan,
Ashley Solano) placed second with a seasonal-best 4:01.68. The 'B' team (
Sarah Westerman,
Kaitlyn Mulder,
Brooke DeVos,
Anne Kennedy) placed eighth with a time of 4:14.13.
The women placed third with 84 points and Minnesota State placed first with a score of 148.5.
Over on the men's side, they had eight personal bests and one event winner. Starting with senior
Josh Barrows who won the 800m with a time of 1:53.98. Freshman
Noah Melton placed ninth with a personal-best time of 1:57.32 in the 800m as well.
Over with the pole vaulters, junior
Matt Pohlmann tied for third with a personal-best height of 14 feet 6.4 inches (4.43m). Freshmen
Matt Ambrose tied for 12th with a personal-best height of 12 feet 6.8 inches and
Tyl Woelber tied for 20th with a personal-best height of 11 feet 1.1 inches.
Rounding out the field events for the Viking men were Woelber and junior
Eli Anderson. Woelber placed second with a jump of six feet 4.8 inches and Anderson placed sixth with a jump of six feet 0.8 inches.
In the 60m hurdles, senior
Paul Meloche placed third with a time of 8.31. Junior
Nick Reiffenberger placed ninth with a time of 1:26.22 in the 600m. The 400m provided two Viking men personal bests, with sophomore
Ryan Sully running a 50.73 to place 11th and junior
Blake Savey placing 14th with a time of 50.92.
Finishing up the sprinters was freshman
Aaron McChristian with a personal-best time of 23.65 for 28th place and junior
Alex Woods with a time of 23.94 for 31st.
The men's 4x400 ended the day's events on the track. The 'A' team (
Ryan Sully, Meloche,
Beau Ireland, Reiffenberger) placed third with a season-best time of 3:23.22 while the 'B' team (
Josh Schumacher, McChristian, Woelber, Melton) placed fifth with a time of 3:33.21.
Overall, the men's team placed seventh with 38.5 points. Minnesota State won the men's side with 185 points.
