Women's Basketball Set to Face a Pair of South Division Opponents

The Vikings take on Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – After a pair of road games, the Augustana women's basketball team is looking forward to being back home in the friendly confines of the Sioux Falls Arena. The Vikings start the weekend with a tip-off vs. Concordia St. Paul on Saturday at 3:30 p.m., and will be back on Sunday to face Minnesota State at 1:30 p.m. For fans not in attendance at this weekend's tilt can follow live video and stats at GoAugie.com/live.

The basketball games this weekend also bring a number of exciting events to the Sioux Falls Arena. On Saturday, Augustana has partnered with South Dakota Make-A-Wish for the annual Make-A-Wish game. Fans will be able to support the efforts of Make-A-Wish by purchasing raffle tickets towards unique Augustana-themed baskets, plus fun for kids, costumed characters and more. On Sunday, Sanford Health and Augustana have teamed up to 'Celebrate the Science of Sports.' The exciting new event will feature a number of interactive scientific booths related to sports in which prizes will be awarded for participation.

Student-run support group SKOL will also be offering a free bus ride to and from the Sioux Falls arena on Saturday, and on Sunday, world-renowned entertainer Red Panda will be performing at halftime of the men's game.

Last weekend the Vikings split a pair on the road against Northern State and MSU Moorhead. In Aberdeen, the Vikings won a fast paced game, 75-66, against Northern State. The Vikings were led by Vishe' Rabb who had a game-high 19 points along with six rebounds. Five other Vikings reached double-digits in Abby Hora and Lynsey Prosser with 12 points, Allie Walter notched 11, Janelle Shiffler scored 11, and Camryn Hay pitched in with 10.

On Saturday, the Vikings faced a white-hot MSU Moorhead team that came into the contest undefeated in conference play. The Vikings only trailed 34-29 going into halftime but were outscored 24-10 in the third quarter to end up losing 79-61. Lynsey Prosser scored a career-high 25 points to lead the Vikings. Abby Hora also had nine points in the loss.

Vikings rank No. 1 in the NSIC

A little bit over the midway point in the season, Augustana still holds onto the first place in the NSIC South at a 9-3 conference record and 17-4 overall. This weekend's game against Concordia-St. Paul will be a big one as they also sit at 9-3 in the NSIC South.

Statistically, Augustana is still one of the most dangerous teams in the NSIC as they lead the league in a number of categories, including scoring (79.6), scoring margin (+17), rebounding (42.6), assists (16.59). On the defensive side only allowing their opponents to shoot 35 percent, and lead the nation in total rebounds with 927.

Individually, Lynsey Prosser leads the team with 13.5 points per game, while Camryn Hay leads the team in rebounds snatching 5.6 a game. Vishe' Rabb has continued to shine out in the last couple of games averaging just over 13 points the last seven games.

Scouting Concordia-St. Paul:
The Golden Bears sit atop the NSIC South with Augustana at 9-3 in the conference and 13-4 overall. Lindsay Dorr leads the Golden Bears in scoring with 17.6 a game while Anna Schmitt also averages 13.9.

Augustana leads Concordia-St. Paul 16-11 all-time, with their last matchup happening on Jan. 6, 2018 in which the Vikings came away with a convincing 85-66 win in front of 2,186 fans at the Sioux Falls Arena. The Vikings are 11-2 against the Golden Bears while playing in Sioux Falls and 3-7 playing in St. Paul.

Scouting Minnesota State:
The Mavericks sit at the bottom of the NSIC South with a 3-9 conference record and a 6-10 record overall. Minnesota State averages 74.8 points per game while giving up 71.7 on average. They are led by Taylor Drost with 11.6 points and Monica Muth with 10.2 points per game.

Augustana leads the Mavericks, 47-28 all-time in a series that dates back to the 1983-84 season. The Vikings have won the last seven meetings with the last one on Feb. 25, 2018 where Augustana came away with a resounding 81-53 win in front of the home crowd at the Sanford Pentagon. The Vikings are 24-10 while playing at home and 20-11 while playing in Mankato.
