Augustana Swimming Opens With A Pair of Victories

BISMARCK, N.D. -- The Augustana swim team opened up its season at UMary on Friday and Saturday. The Vikings came away 2-1 on the weekend with wins over UMary and Northern State.

NSIC Player to Watch Taylor Beagle took home first place in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:53.29 while Hannah Lambert placed third with a time of 18:27.12. Beagle also competed in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a team time of 8:00.63 to place second. She ended things with a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:17.83.  

Kelsey Gilbert and Emma Miller finished one and two in the 1000-yard freestyle with times of 10:56.82 and 10:57.36. Destini Oehlertz took home second place after a 24.80 time in teh 50-yard freestyle. 

The 'A' team in the 800-yard freestyle team placed second with a time of 8:00.63. The team consisted of Ruth Huffman, Miller, Beagle and Oehlertz. The 200-yard freestyle 'A' relay team placed third with a time of 1:52.78. The team consisted of Oehlertz, Micah Hudlet, Gilbert and Isabel Waite. 

Four Viking swimmers placed in the top-six in the 200-yard freestyle. Destini Oehlertz placed second with a time of 1:57.41, Emma Miller placed fourth with a time of 1:59.37 while Kamryn Robarge and Kelsey Gilbert finished fifth and sixth with times of 2:00.43 and 2:00.48. 

Two Augie swimmers placed in the top-five of the 100-yard backstroke. Chrislin Nieuwoudt placed second with a time of 1:01.96 while Linzie Kreizel placed fifth with a time of 1:04.45. 

Miller finished things out with a third-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:20.35 and Huffman placed fifth with a time of 5:22.94.

The Vikings travel to Aberdeen, South Dakota, to take on Northern State on Friday at 5 p.m. and then will travel to Omaha, Nebraska to compete in the Midwestern Shootout on Saturday at 10 a.m.
