Augustana Women's Basketball Takes On Midland In Home Opener

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana women's basketball opens its home portion of the schedule when they take on Midland on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. inside the Elmen Center. 

The Game
The Vikings take on the Warriors of Midland for the sixth time with the most recent meeting coming in December of 2015 when the Vikings came away with an 89-57 victory. Fans can support Feeding South Dakota by bringing two items to any of the games over the next week in the Elmen Center and receive admission at the discounted rate of $5 per ticket.

The Warriors (3-4) 
While the Vikings are entering their second game of the season, Midland is seven games deep in its season. The Warriors defeated NAIA No. 18 Tabor College 63-55 earlier this season while also defeating Bethany College and Nebraska Christian College. Most recently Midland is coming off back-to-back matchups against NAIA top-10 ranked teams in No. 7 Dakota Wesleyan and No. 1 Concordia (Neb.) in which they dropped both contests. 

The Warriors are led by Amanda Hansen with 11.7 points per game and 3.1 boards. Erin Prusa has chipped in with 8.1 points while leading the team with an efficient 63 percent shooting from the field. Katy Gathje and Makenna Sullivan both have pulled down 5.1 rebounds a contest while Maddie Meadows has connected on eight triples this season and has dished out 14 assists. 

As a team, the Warriors have averaged 65 points, 38 boards and 14 assists per game this season. Defensively, Midland has averaged two blocks per contest and 10 steals a game. The Warriors have shot at a 37 percent clip while their opponents shot at a 42 percent clip from the field. Midland has given up an average of 66.3 points per game and held its opponents to 34 percent from deep. 

The Vikings (1-0)
Augustana is coming off a season-opening win at Truman State. Augustana jumped out to an early lead, but the Bulldogs came back to tie things up at 12 all and held a 23-16 lead after one. The Vikings built a 45-36 halftime lead and in the third quarter pushed the lead to as many as 20 and held Truman State to nine third-quarter points. In the end, Augustana came away with an 83-62 victory. 

Five players scored in double figures while getting 26 points off the bench. Vishe' Rabb led all scorers with 15 points on 55 percent shooting while Abby Hora chipped in with 14 points. Lauren Sees shined in her debut recording 12 points while Janelle Shiffler had 11 points off the bench. Camryn Hay rounded out the double-digit scoring picking up 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting. 

As a team, the Vikings shot at a 42.5 percent clip from the field and had 14 points off of 13 forced turnovers. Defensively, Augustana held the Bulldogs to 16 percent from deep and 39.3 percent from the field. 

One Last Thing
The Vikings will have three home games at the Elmen Center before moving to their new home at the Sanford Pentagon on Friday, Dec. 6 against Winona State and Dec. 7 against Upper Iowa.
