Viking Women’s Basketball Hits the Road for NSIC Play

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana women's basketball team will hit the road for the final time in the 2019 calendar year when they travel to take on Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston Friday and Saturday. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. on Friday and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. 

The Games
Augustana is a combined 35-4 all-time against its opponents this weekend. The Vikings hold a 17-2 all-time record against the Golden Eagles and an 18-2 all-time record against the Beavers. 

The Golden Eagles (1-6, 0-3 NSIC)
The Minnesota Crookston women enter at 1-6 overall and 0-3 in conference action after losing to No. 24 MSU Moorhead and Northern State last time out. The Golden Eagles started the season on a four-game losing streak before capturing their first win of the season with a 68-65 win over Chaminade. UMC is led by Bren Fox with 9.3 points per game while Julia Peplinksi averages 6.4 a contest. As a team, the Golden Eagles average 58.7 points per game while shooting 36 percent from the field and 28 percent from deep.

The Beavers (4-3, 1-2 NSIC)
The Beavers enter at 4-3 overall and 1-2 in NSIC play after dropping their last two conference games to Northern State and No. 24 MSU Moorhead. Bemidji State won four of its first five games before losing both games this past weekend. BSU is led by Trinity Myer with 14.7 points per game while Claire Wolhowe chips in with 9.6 points a contest. As a team, the Beavers average 63.9 points per game while shooting 41 percent from the field and 34 percent from deep.

The Vikings (5-2, 1-2 NSIC)
Augustana comes into the weekend with a 5-2 overall record and a 1-2 record in conference action. The Vikings split this past weekend against Winona State and Upper Iowa. Augie mounted a comeback against the Warriors outscoring them 26-18 in the fourth quarter to force overtime. Unfortunately, WSU outscored the Vikings 11-3 to take the overtime win, but Augie bounced back on Saturday with a 74-48 win over Upper Iowa. 

The Vikings are led by Abby Hora with 14.4 points per game while Lauren Sees averages 10.6 points a contest while shooting a team-high 52 percent from the field. As a team, the Vikings average 75.6 points per game on 40 percent shooting from the field. Augie holds its opponents to 60.9 points per game while limiting them to 28 percent from deep. 

Player to Watch
Senior Abby Hora poured in a career-high 20 points against Upper Iowa on 6-of-11 shooting from the field. Hora also drained four long balls on the night as well as three boards and three steals. On the season, the Viborg, South Dakota, native averages 14.4 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game.
